Shine on, Walkie Talkie

They're building this brilliant skyscraper in London, the Walkie Talkie.

To further amplify the brilliance of the building, its designers made its mirrored reflective surface concave.

Apparently, in what said designers consider an unanticipated problem, the building is concentrating the sunlight with enough power to, say, melt a car. A Jag, in this case.

Unanticipated, they say.

Indeed, who would have thought that a concave reflective structure would concentrate the reflected rays on a single point...? Will the wonders of modern techonology ever cease to amaze us?

Funny thing, though... I just performed a search on google for «concave vs convex». The very first result has an image, with several intriguing concepts; one says "Concave mirror - causes light rays to meet, or converge". So, apparently cutting-edge science like this seems to be widespread on the internet, these days.

But the pièce de résistance is definitely blaming the "current elevation of the sun in the sky". I also like the solution - just wait for autumn. I'm assuming something will be done to correct the sun's problematic elevation, come next spring, right?

I suggest a stern conversation with our "brightest star", making it clear that such behaviour is to be avoided in the future.
